Nong Saeng Agricultural Learning Center and Demonstration Farm
Developed inaccordance with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) standards, the learning center is specifically tailored to impart sustainable living knowledge to local communities.
GULF has transformed an unused barren land into a thriving green space, serving as a natural carbon sink for the communities surrounding the power plant. This area also serves as a community learning center for career and agricultural development.
To combat PM 2.5 dust emissions from burning of agricultural lands, the demonstration farm adopts instead an alternative approach whereby farmers plow the underlayer of rice fields and compost rice stubbles in lieu of permanent disposal through incarceration.
This method indirectly improves soil quality via the resulting accretion of naturally-occurring fertilizers derived from the crop byproducts, enhancing nutrient potency through increased microorganisms populations from fermentation liquids and compost derivatives.
The demonstration farm sought to incorporate organic farming into its agricultural operations and domestic livestock husbandry, aimimg to optimize resource circularity and efficiency. This aligns with the learning center’s objective to educate the public about sustainable zero-waste management practices and its principles.
Leveraging the Learning Center's space as a venue for educating locals on professional development had enabled us to impart our knowledge-based resources to the community members. The utilization of this shared space facilitates an exchange of agricultural know-how and animal husbandry practices through expert-led workshops aimed at opening doors for participants toward career advancements through communal and personal development.
Moreover, this initiative includes distributing seedling plant varieties to local residents for their home experimentation, paving the way for potential income generation and economic empowerment at the household level.
